Limerick Violin Lessons
About Me
Hi, I am Chris and I am violinist, violin teacher and blogger. I have studied the violin at the Athens Conservatory, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. My teachers include Ioannis Tzoumanis, Simon Fischer, Christoph Poppen and Hagai Shaham. I have also studied 'Performance Teaching' at the Guildhall School. I have extensive performing and teaching experience. I have been a member of the World Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and since 2005 I have been a permanent member of the Athens State Orchestra. I have also performed in several solo recitals and chamber music concerts. I have taught the violin in Greece and the Uk for the last fifteen years both privately and in music schools.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is of a holistic nature and it embraces four areas:
Creating a solid technical foundation and efficient body mechanics, to support learners’ physical wellbeing when playing.
Provoking the students’ curiosity and creative thinking by using music games as well as leading questions that helps them create solutions to their musical and technical problems.
Teaching music theory as a part of violin learning, to develop musicianship alongside performance.
Teaching the students how to practice effectively between the lessons.
Apart from one-to-one lessons, students will have the opportunity to participate in group lessons as well as perform in formal (in front of an audience) and informal (to the teacher and fellow learners) concerts.
My postgraduate studies in both violin performance and in performance teaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama have equipped me with the necessary tools to provide a valuable educational experience to every student.
